Welcome!
First Parish Church is a dynamic religious community serving Duxbury, Marshfield, Pembroke and surrounding towns. Our doors are open to people of all cultural, racial and religious backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations. We firmly believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every person.
At First Parish, we won't tell you what to believe. We affirm the individual's own free and responsible search for truth and meaning, understanding that each person's lifelong spiritual journey is along a unique path. And we know the holy can be found in nature as readily as in a sacred text.
But we also believe we are better together. We know that when our spirits cool and our fire begins to dim, we can rekindle the flame of commitment in the warmth of loving friends and spiritual companions. Who We Are
Our faith draws from a tapestry of many spiritual foundations and backgrounds, united not by creed or dogma, but by shared values. The Unitarian Universalist Association has adopted seven Principles and Purposes that outline our most basic shared values.
Your First Visit
Many of our newcomers have visited several churches looking for a community, fellowship, or a place to explore their spirituality. We're glad you're thinking of visiting us!
One of our greeters will likely meet you at the door and can answer any questions you have. Our services are about an hour in length, and include music, hymns, readings, and a sermon. We do like to invite our first-time visitors to introduce themselves, but this is entirely optional. Services can be quite varied and we invite visitors to attend a few services to gain a fuller impression of the rich diversity of our faith community.
Most children enjoy our Religious Education program, which nurtures spiritual and religious growth through a rich curriculum. We have a nursery for toddlers. Some families with infants keep their babies with them in the adult service, and some choose to listen to the service from the parlor.
After the service, we invite you to join us for coffee hour, a time for discussion and making friends. This is a great time to inquire about our ongoing activities, and perhaps check the bulletin boards for items of interest.
